UNAM LIBRARY Users with Disabilities

Persons with disabilities should be able to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of learning. UNAM Library strives to respond appropriately to ensure that persons with disabilities have access, to the physical environment, information and communications technology, and other facilities and services.

  • The entrance to the building at the Windhoek Main Campus Library is located next to the loading zone. Users with disabilities can enter the library building by ringing a bell installed both outside and inside of the building at the lower ground floor level.
  • All other campus libraries provide access to students with disabilities through the main library entrances or delivery doors access to the rest of their facilities.
  • Hage Gaigob Library: Dedicated entrance
  • Oshakati Library:  Accessible main entrance and can use the elevator to access the first floor of the building.
  • JEDS Library: alternative entrance.
  • OGONGO Library: Users with wheelchairs or crunches may enter the library using a pathway created for them as well as the main entrance to the library.
  • HP Library: Users with disabilities (in case of wheelchairs or crutches) use the 3M gate instead of the turnstile (whether entering or exiting).
  • Neudamm Library: access is through the main entrance, as there is a gate that can be opened when needed.
  • Khomasdal Library: Ramps – providing access to the library building and Wheelchairs bound/ crutches use 3M gate as entrance and exit.  There is one restroom for students/users with disabilities, shareable with library staff. A dedicated room with a computer with Jaws, special Keyboard with enlarged keys and MaGic software installed to enhance sound for students with visual impairment.
  • Oshakati Library: The main entrance​ to the building is levelled to allow access.
 Sam Nuujoma Library: Main entrance is not accessible, due to 3M set up.  Use the second library door
  • An elevator with keys designed in braille for those with visual impairment provides access to the other facilities at the Windhoek Main Campus Library.
  • At campus libraries with more than one floor, access to users with disabilities is provided through an elevator.
  • The interior of all campus libraries is fully accessible to all users in wheelchairs.
  • Ablution facilities for users with disabilities are available at all levels of the libraries.
  • The information desks at all campus libraries are located close to the entrance of all libraries to provide easy access to all. It is height adjustable to accommodate all users at the Windhoek Main Campus Library.
