What Services can I get as an Undergraduate Student?

Users can borrow books and other information resources available in the UNAM Library. In addition, the Library offers information literacy and research support services.

Borrowing Privileges

  • Provide Student Card or Proof of registration
  • 6 items for 14 days
  • Renewals of loan period may be granted on request for two further periods of two weeks for undergraduate students and Special users.
  • Requests for extensions must be made before the loan period lapses if such item is not put on hold by another user
  • Renewals can be done telephonically, via e-mail, or online self- services.
  • Fines and administrative fees are charged for late returns of material
  • Fine limit: N$20.00 (Borrowing privileges will be suspended when this limit has been exceeded).
  • During non-operational hours and at times as prescribed by the library, users may return borrowed items through the slot provided at Windhoek and Oshakati campuses.  Users at other campuses may  arrange for after-hours return pertaining to their own campus. The after-hours return box is emptied daily. 

Short Loan ( Frequently used items only available to UNAM students and Staff)

  • Two items may be borrowed simultaneously for a period of four (4) hours
  • Titles with adequate number of copies can be borrowed for a period of one (1) day.
  • Items may be taken out for overnight from 20:00 but must be returned by 09:00 the next day.
  • Reservations for overnight loans are possible.
  • Arrangement to fit the situation on hand can be made to ensure flexibility in the utilization of these resources.

 

Electronic Resources (E-resources)

  • Access to a multitude of electronic resources is provided by my means of UNAMSearch, the search function on the Library homepage and provides collective access to the Libraries e-resources.

  • UNAMSearch by clicking on the eBooks or the A-Z electronic journals.

 

 

 

Interlibrary Loans

Material not available in any of the libraries of the Library and Information Service may be borrowed from other libraries. See Interlibrary Form

IT Support (Photocopying, Printing and Scanning)

  • Multifunction facilities for photocopying, scanning and printing are available at all UNAM Libraries and users are required to logon using their portal login detail.
  • Students at all Campuses can load credits or units on their accounts through the online self service guide Loading credit User Guide .
  • Express printing terminals across UNAM Libraries are available for printing only. Allowing maximum of five (5) minutes to each user.
  • Students can print using their own laptops
  • Computers in the library are primarily meant for educational, research and scholarly communication purposes, (including data processing, researching for assignments, communication between students and lecturers through the portal, official e-mail, printing, etc.).
  • Library users can bring their own devices.

Wireless Access

  • Users with mobile devices are encouraged to use wireless (Wi-Fi) hotspots available at all campus libraries.
  •   Other users may use the guest access, and they need to contact library staff

Users with Disabilities

  • Currently only available in the Windhoek Main Campus and Khomasdal Campus libraries.
  • With the help of innovative assistive technologies, the disability room support all users with disabilities by providing an environment in which they will fully participate, enjoy a quality experience while studying, working, or visiting library facilities.

Booking of Facilities

Discussion Rooms

These facilities are available at all library branches, except for Katima Mulilo, Khomasdal, Rundu and Sourthen Campus. Prior booking is necessary. Conditions of use apply. Equipment includes reading tables, chairs, and power outlets.

Study carells or Research clusters

There are individual lockable units available for postgraduate and undergraduate students at the Windhoek Main Campus, Oshakati, Ogongo and HP Campus library.  Prior booking is required. A fine will be levied for lost keys.

Display Facilities

Different display areas and notice boards are available at all campus libraries, for, new books received and posting of public notices.  The University Librarian must approve all notices posted within the Library.

Exhibition Space

The Foyer at the Windhoek Main Campus Library may be used for events such as indoor exhibitions, displays and book launches.

24/7 Study Area

Overnight study facilities are available at Hifikepunye Pohamba (HP) and Jose Edwardo dos Santos (JEDS) libraries. Library users are allowed to use their own materials for study. Photocopying and printing services are also available in the 24/7 study area.

Training Rooms

These facilities are available at some Campus Libraries.
